What makes our Martial Arts classes unique?
Traditional Adults Program
Modern MASA Kidz Club®
Like most professional martial arts schools, our instructors are officially accredited by a global organisation, our accreditation is with the World Moo Duk Kwan! However, this is where the similarities to other martial arts schools separate rapidly! Most martial arts schools teach their traditional martial art style to both children and adults alike because this is the way they were taught a generation ago.
At MASA, we no longer teach this way because we recognise that children do not have the same level of physical and intellectual capacity to embrace and understand such complexity. We believe that building children's focus and confidence needs a new approach where children are able to mature at their own pace. Therefore, we are now one of the only, if not the only, martial arts schools in South Australia to have two main streams of programs: the MASA Kidz Club® and the Official Soo Bahk Do, Moo Duk Kwan®!
There is strong evidence in education systems to support separating "child learning" into primary school, secondary school, and university, which is why we also created age-specific programs at MASA. Little Ninja GYM 3.5–4 years; Mighty Dragonz 5-6 years; Future Leaderz 7-9 years; and Black Belt Club 10-14 years! These age brackets have proven to cover the four main intellectual mile stones in child development while providing strong platforms to present age-appropriate martial arts training within the "peer" groups. Separating children into their peer groups also serves to lower anxiety, allowing the students to be more relaxed and enjoy their class.
In addition, we have developed a structured "rewards" system that provides a clearer "pathway" with more regular, positive reinforcement and motivation that the students understand and embrace quickly on their journey to Black Belt and beyond! With the MASA Kidz Club® operating now for well over a decade, we have many students that have graduated from our MASA Kidz Club® into the adult program. These students now attend classes with new motivation and energy, a more mature outlook, and the personal discipline to excel in their next "challenge" to become a "Dan" and one day reach the Ko Dan Ja (Master Rank).
We are also an accredited member of the Australian Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, which forms part of the World Moo Duk Kwan Federation, the first martial arts organization ever to be registered in Korea in November 1945. In brief, the art we teach to adults is the Soo Bahk Do, translated in general terms as "the way of the striking hand," but a more literal translation equates to "the way of strengthening the body and the mind." The Moo Duk Kwan aspect relates to the founder's philosophy, meaning "house of martial virtue.".
We look forward to working with you and your family soon.
