The Adult Martial Art style taught at Martial Arts SA Leadership Academy is known Globally as Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan (手搏道武德館). This is truely a traditional Korean Martial Art developed from a 2,000 year-old art form identified in the Ancient Muye Dobo Tongji scrolls discovered in Korea in 1957 and translated by the Moo Duk Kwan's Founder, Hwang Kee.

MASA is the only Official Moo Duk Kwan studio in Adelaide, formally connected to the World Moo Duk Kwan!  The World Moo Duk Kwan was the first Martial Art ever registered in Korea in 1945 by Founder Hwang Kee, which is now headed by the Founder's Son H.C. Hwang since the founders passing.

Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan is the scientific yet "natural" use of the body in "the Art" of self defence, combined with a strict value based philosophy guiding it's practitioners towards discovering their full potential.  Soo Bahk Do's,  手搏道, literally meaning of “Hand Striking Way,” is the technical and physical aspect of the art. When combined with the Moo Duk Kwan,  武德館, meaning “Institute of Martial Virtue” and the philosophical influence, it is no longer just techniques of self defence, but a way of developing discipline, control of power/strength both mentally and physically of the mind and body together.

Soo Bahk Do provides the practitioner with the physical training that when applied with "intent", allows them to develop both an effective form of self defence together with a means to develop a strong and healthy body. The physical techniques focus on power and effectiveness in a balanced combination of punching, kicking, attacks and counter attacks, which continue to improve any level of physical fitness in the pursuit of powerful execution. Training provides many strength training movements, cardiovascular exercises, and exercise drills that are all part of the training process from beginning as a white belt in a steady, systematic progression to black belt and beyond.

With an emphasis on Disciplined Self Defence, Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan also embraces our Founders philosophy of "Moo Do" which is taught as the prevention of "Conflict" both internally (Mental) and externally (physical). With this front of mind in everyday life, we are able to control our mental state towards positive, mindful and respectful decision making growing our confidence and self esteem to mention just a few!

A large part of the physical training focuses on internal techniques which relate to those that utilize greater understanding of body mechanics, coordination, application, and closer control of one's body. Students learn and practice breathing, tension and relaxation exercises as part of their physical training. These techniques are also effective in reducing stress, increase concentration, and separate us from negative thoughts.

Moo Duk Kwan is the philosophy and culture governing the way practitioners of Soo Bahk Do must live their lives. Originally the name given to the first school to teach this martial arts style, it is a brotherhood and developing righteousness through Soo Bahk Do training, enforcing discipline and developing character.
